The presence of dermatitis has seen an increase globally, and it can be credited to the rapid environmental changes all around the world. This is also true when it comes to India. If we compare the research done on dermatitis in various parts of the world, India doesn’t have as strong research done on dermatitis cases.

Women have a higher chance of getting affected by dermatitis in India at the age of 40 to 44, and it is least harmful to female infants at age 1 to 4.  The death rate for women in 2013 was 103.3 years of healthy life lost per 100,000 women, and for men, it was approximately 93.4 per 100,000 men.

In population-based research done on dermatitis in India, it was revealed that the skin condition had seen a rise in the past four decades. An analysis from Bihar showcased an occurrence of 0.38% of the entire patients’ attendees. If we compare this number with the occurrence in the Eastern or Northern part of India, it is quite high. When it comes to children, dermatological centre reportedly had 28.4% dermatitis cases. Contrastingly, only 0.01% children in South India are affected by dermatitis. Different climate and eating habits are the reason behind this unusualness.

Dermatitis is prevalent in India presently, and urbanisation and upgraded quality of life are the possible reasons for the rise in the cases of this condition. This comparison can be made based on hospital studies where urban patients outnumbered the rural patients. Despite the fact that dermatitis is prevalent in India, it is still less than developed countries.

The initial occurrence of dermatitis is seen in young children and infants. However, the condition can occur at any point in time in your life. Some skin conditions that fall under dermatitis are long-term, but hand eczema and contact dermatitis might be acute in nature.
